Poker Etiquette 101 E-mail
Poker is a gentleman’s game.  It isn’t that women don’t or can’t play, it is that there are some written and unwritten rules of etiquette involved in the game of poker that when properly followed, makes the game better for all.

No Swearing
Poker is a game of courtesy and respect.  Please have regard for the other players at the table.

Don’t Play Slow
Don’t think this means that you can’t slow play – it means that when it is your turn to act, do not take longer than is necessary.  While at times, you may need to take time to calculate odds, read a player, or just make a difficult decision, proper poker etiquette asserts that you shouldn’t take more time than is necessary to act.

Don’t “Splash the Pot”
Splashing the pot is when you drop a stack of chips one by one onto the chips that are already in the pot.  Doing this will most likely result in a recount of the pot to verify the amount you put in.

Do Not Make Comments During Play
Keep your mouth shut.  Do not scream out, “I folded a four!” when the flop comes 4, 4, 4.  Don’t offer or ask for any advice from other players or bystanders.

Play in Turn
Do not state your actions before it is your turn to act.  This can give information to other players still involved in the hand.

Don’t take Chips Off the Table
Until you are ready to leave the game, do not remove your chips from the table.  While you may be tempted to try to protect your winnings, it is improper poker etiquette to remove any chips and many times, you will not even be allowed without giving up your seat at the table.

Be a Good Sport
Wins and losses are part of the game.  While the wins make you feel good, don’t showboat or gloat.  On the other side of the scale, when you lose, even if it’s a bad beat, keep your cool and don’t lose control.

Most Importantly

Don’t be a Jerk.
 ‘Nuff said.
