Aug. 8 (Bloomberg) -- The winner of this year's World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas will walk away with $12 million, almost 10 times what Tiger Woods earned for winning the British Open in July. The participants, 8,773 professional and amateur gamblers, each paid $10,000 for a shot at the windfall.Peter Alson, a native New Yorker and poker lifer, has never won a big-time event.
